Teck's 2019 Economic Contributions in the Elk Valley

We are committed to ensuring that the benefits of mining are shared in the areas where we operate, and that our communities benefit from our work. We recently released our 2019 Economic Contributions Report detailing the economic contributions generated by Teck’s activities and operations, including those that stem from our operations in the Elk Valley.

In 2019, our activities in the Elk Valley (including Fording River, Greenhills, Line Creek, and Elkview Operations) generated $3.9 billion through employee wages and benefits ($607 million), payments to suppliers (nearly $3 billion), income and resource taxes ($292 million), and community investment (nearly $1 million). Across Canada, our economic contributions amounted to $8.9 billion.

Of this $3.9 billion, a third stemmed from Teck’s Fording River Operations. Through the Castle Project, Teck will continue to generate jobs and economic growth, securing a strong future for the community in the Elk Valley.
